Tomato Chutney

  • 1. Tomatoes : 6 large
  • 2. green chillies : 3
  • 3. Red chillies : 3
  • 4. white gram (Urad dal) : 2 tsp
  • 5. Mustard seeds : 2 tsp
  • 6. Fenugreek seeds : ½ tsp
  • 7. Asafoetida (hing) : 1 tsp
  • 8. Jaggery : 1 tsp
  • 9. Corriander seeds : 1 tsp
  • 10. Salt to taste
  • 11. oil : 1 tbsp

Methods/steps

  1. 1. Heat half the oil in a pan. Splutter 1 tsp of mustard seeds and put in 1 tsp of the urad dal, fenugreek seeds, asafoetida, and coriander seeds. Stir for a minute.
  2. 2. Add the green chillies and red chillies and fry for a minute.
  3. 3. Add the chopped tomatoes, jaggery, and salt and continue frying till the tomatoes are well cooked.
  4. 4. Let it cool, and grind it to a fine paste. Remove on to a bowl
  5. 5. Heat the remaining oil in another pan and splutter the remaining mustard seeds and white gram (urad dal). Pour over the tomato chutney.
  6. 6. Serve as desired.
